Promotional Policy for Faculty Members

Faculty promotion policy, eligibility criteria, promotion process, self-appraisal, timeline and appeals.

1. Objective

To establish a transparent, fair, and merit-based system for the promotion of faculty members in accordance with institutional goals, AICTE/UGC norms, and state guidelines, while incorporating performance feedback through a Self-Appraisal process.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all teaching staff (Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors) employed in Mangalam College of Engineering, Ettumanoor.

3. Eligibility Criteria for Promotion

Associate ProfessorProfessor5 years as Associate Professor Ph.D. in relevant field 5 publications; guidance of at least 1 PG project; leadership roles; satisfactory appraisal

4. Promotion Process

1. Application

Eligible candidates may submit their applications to the Principal at the beginning of each academic year.

2. Submission of Self-Appraisal Form

Faculty must fill out a Self-Appraisal Form detailing:

  • Teaching effectiveness (feedback scores, innovative methods)
  • Research and publications
  • Participation in seminars, workshops, and FDPs
  • Student mentorship
  • Administrative responsibilities
  • Contributions to institutional development

3. Screening Committee Review

A Promotion Screening Committee shall evaluate the applications. It will consist of:

  1. Principal (Chairperson)
  2. HoD of concerned department
  3. External academic expert
  4. One senior faculty member (Professor)

4. Interview and Presentation (if required)

Shortlisted candidates may be invited for a personal interview and presentation of their contributions.

5. Final Approval

Based on the committee's recommendation, the Principal shall forward the proposal to the Management for final approval.

  • Declaration of Promotion Results: August

7. Appeals

Faculty may appeal a promotion decision within 30 days of notification. An Appeals Committee will reassess the application.

8. Confidentiality

All promotion-related documentation and evaluations shall be treated as confidential.
